Cumbernauld

This sarcastic entry was previously made about Cumbernauld:Cumbernauld's historic town centre, with its charming winding cobbled streets and gorgeous buildings which are reminiscent of Prague or Budapest, is a wonder to behold. Considered a masterpiece of medieval and Renaissance architecture, any tourist could spend hours simply wandering around and possibly chatting to some of the friendly locals without even entering into one of the scores of fantastic upmarket boutiques.

Cumbernauld is one of five new towns built in Scotland in the 1950's to contain the overspill from Glasgow. As a result there is next to nothing of architectural interest in the town unless you are keen on 1960's shopping centres.

The town was the setting of the popular Scottish film "Gregorys Girl" although there is nothing at all celebrating this fact.
